I replaced a whiny wheel bearing, and now the total absence of noise has me paranoid.

The calm before the storm? If this is on a rover the harmonic resonance from the wheel bearing is likely to have put a dozen other parts on the brink of failure. [sarcasm]

On a Benz with ~400k miles - my W124 300D. That whole harmonic resonance thing, though? Not a joke. I've been there twice, on the same vehicle, an '80s Rabbit diesel pickup. The first was a slung wheel weight that contributed to a ball joint and a tie rod end, the second was... everything connected to the AC compressor mount.
Back on the topic of the Benz, the outer wheel bearing impressed the shit out of me. A "slovakia" bearing, the rollers apparently had such a thick case hardening on them that they were within about 7 thousandths of crawling through the middle of the race *and still hard and smooth*. There was only that tiny lip worn in the race left keeping the thinned out rollers from escape, but they were still running. The roller cage was within probably 40 thou of contacting the race because those little champs were so worn.

I'm sure this will happen to me when I change vehicles.

Harmonic resonance can definitely do a lot of damage, usually wheel bearings aren't harsh enough though.

You mean other than the distinct lack of boost?

Boost is definitely a nouveau riche thing. A gentleman requires not that his turbo functions.

I would beg to differ. The ultimate luxury is being able to get to your destination quickly and comfortably.
Hence why the most expensive Benzes have turbo V12s now. If they didn't require it, then we should yank that obstinate turbo V12 from the S600 and replace it with an OM615, and create a 220SD.

This is a thing. A thing that needs to be done, by them, and happen. There is, after all, fashionably late, and then "FU, I drive an S-class" late.

Wouldn't it more properly be "FU, I drive a Maybach" late?
Or "FU, I drive a Roller" late?
Or "FU, I fly a Harrier" late?

Any could apply. Difference in number of hours to days late, of course.

Wouldn't the Harrier apply if you, say, were to accidentially blow up your destination with an AGM?

Looks like he...
Made the party "late".
